Farm Machinery Industry Careers

FTMTA was pleased to exhibit at the recent Agri Careers event and Conor McGuinness, manning the Association’s stand, was extremely busy during the day as he fielded numerous queries from enthusiastic young people interested in making a career in the farm machinery industry. A number of FTMTA member firms such as AGCO / Massey Ferguson, Dairymaster and McHale also participated with stands of their own as did, affiliate member, IT Tralee and all reported strong interest from a high calibre of individuals.

The Association believes that it is important that school leavers and students understand that the farm machinery industry is a progressive, innovative sector offering a variety of challenging and rewarding career paths for high quality recruits and it was to deliver this message that  FTMTA exhibited at Agri Careers. There are numerous careers available in the farm machinery sector encompassing roles across the technical, sales and parts aspects of the business and FTMTA wishes to encourage students to think about pursuing such a career.

The mission of the Association is to promote the highest standards of professionalism in the Irish farm machinery industry. FTMTA is working to deliver a viable, local, professional industry to meet the agricultural mechanisation requirements of professional Irish farming businesses.  The industry requires an ongoing intake of good quality new recruits to support this vision.

The FTMTA stand at Agri Careers featured a number of  vacant positions in all departments with member firms across the country  and there was considerable interest from students sitting the Leaving Certificate this year in relation to the Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Mechanisation) degree  in IT Tralee. This course has been developed in cooperation by the college and industry to deliver a program tailored to meet the requirements of the modern farm machinery industry for highly skilled service technicians who can deal with the rapidly evolving technical challenges of today’s agricultural mechanisation technology. The course is a mix of college based learning and work placement over three years with the student required to carry out a substantial body of online learning when on work placement and is attracting a lot of attention from potential students.
