New Course Getting Underway in Tralee

The first intake of students into the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Mechanisation course in IT Tralee will shortly commence their studies at the college in. Even though the course was not launched until June it is fully subscribed and a class of committed young people will soon begin their training to be the agricultural machinery technicians of the future. This three year, level 7 degree, program is specifically designed to meet the needs of the modern farm machinery sector and those seeking to enter the industry as aspiring service people.

The course will be mix of college based learning and work placement over the three years with the student required to carry out a substantial body of online learning when on work placement.

FTMTA believes that this course will produce the high calibre of qualified personnel required by the industry and its customers in the future and the Association encourages its member firms to support the new program in the coming years.

The course will continue to be a direct entry program outside of the CAO process and to apply for a place on the course potential students must have been accepted by a sponsoring farm machinery business who will provide the required work placements. Successful applicants will require at least 5 passes in the Leaving Certificate and three of those passes must be at least of C grade in Maths, English and a Science.  FTMTA is encouraging interested students who will sit the Leaving Cert in 2016 to make themselves known to potential sponsor firms early in the school year.

For now we wish the students who make up this year’s intake onto the course the very best with their studies and with their careers in the farm machinery industry.
