New President at AEA
FTMTA is pleased to welcome the appointment of a representative of a member firm of the Association to a key role as the new President of the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) in the UK.
The AEA was established in 1875 and is the UK trade association representing manufacturers and importers of agricultural machinery and outdoor equipment (horticulture, professional and leisure grass care, and forestry). The membership of the AEA covers a broad spectrum of manufacturers of land based equipment from combine harvesters to secateurs and everything in between.
Mark Ormond, Managing Director of SAME Deutz-Fahr UK, has recently been appointed to the annual presidency of the AEA. During his speech to the recent AEA annual conference, Mark highlighted the importance of AEA to their members as the UK prepares to leave the EU.
Ormond is well known in the Irish farm machinery trade due to his active role leading the SAME Deutz-Fahr presence in this country as well as the UK and also to his previous role with a well known implement supplier. Mark was born into a farming family and has some 20 years’ experience in the agricultural machinery industry at both dealer and manufacturer level. His early career was spent in the implement sector but Mark moved to SDF as MD in 2015 with responsibility for all sales and aftersales issues for the company in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Mark is frequent visitor to Irish machinery events and was present on the SDF stand at the FTMTA Farm Machinery Show in Punchestown during February.
FTMTA wishes Mark a successful tenure at the helm of AEA during what will undoubtedly be an interesting year for the farm machinery sector on both sides of the Irish Sea. The machinery sector is very inter connected between the UK and Ireland in the context of the EU and Brexit is sure to bring some challenges to trade in both directions.
