Family Businesses Focus at the FTMTA Conference

The FTMTA Conference will be held in The Heritage Hotel, Killenard, Co. Laois, on Friday, November 20th.

 Given the predominantly family business nature of the farm machinery sector the presentation by Kieran McCarthy in relation to sustainability and viability in family businesses with a particular emphasis on transition and succession is sure to be of interest.

Kieran is a founding Partner and Head of Audit at accounting firm Hughes Blake which has a unique focus on serving entrepreneurial owner managed and family owned businesses. Kieran qualified as a Certified Public Accountants in 1995, became a fellow of the Institute of Taxation of Ireland in 1998 and published his first book, “Family Business – A Survival Guide”, in 2014. The book has been very well received and primes the owners of family businesses to meet the unique challenges when family members work together.

Other confirmed speakers and topics include:

  • Leading economic commentator, Jim Power, on the overall economic position, the agri economic outlook and the implications for the farm machinery sector.
  • Peter Kealy, former MD of BWG Foods Retail Division and now a consultant to the retail sector, will speak on the lessons learned from a career in retail management.
  • William Judge of AGCO who has recently been appointed to the role of Sales Manager for the Massey Ferguson brand in UK and Ireland.
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) for the farm machinery business. The Association has been working on the development of a farm machinery business environment of the leading CRM system, Salesforce.com .
  • The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Mechanisation degree program in IT Tralee.
  • The positive impact of the correct Human Resource Management strategy for a
  • Responsibilities and obligations in the sale and supply of farm machinery.
  • Irish Farmers Journal commodity experts will give their views on the outlook for agricultural markets.

The conference aims to have positive impact in the daily business of all those attending as well as providing a valuable networking day for the membership which will be added to by a reception and conference dinner to be held that evening and made possible by the generous support of the Irish Farmers Journal.

Prior registration is necessary to attend the conference and the closing date for registration to attend the conference is Friday, November 13th.
