FTMTA Supports IFA Farm Safety Day
Farm workplace accidents continue at a disproportionately high level and, tragically, such accidents have increased dramatically during 2014. Health and Safety Authority (HSA) figures show that the fatal accident rate in agriculture is far higher than in any other major economic sector.
Within the overall farm accident figures, accidents involving machinery are a significant component and, regrettably, this year has already seen a number of fatalities involving machinery use. FTMTA has, over many years stressed the importance of safety awareness in relation to farm machinery use and the Association is pleased to support the IFA’s National Farm Safety Awareness Day on Monday, July 21st, which is an opportunity for farm families to dedicate time to thinking about health and safety on their farms; to identify potential danger areas; and, to consider ways to minimise risks.
By taking time with family members and farm staff to review or complete a risk assessment on July 21st, farmers will not only reduce the risks to themselves, their families, employees and farm visitors but will also ensure they are complying with Health and Safety legislation.
